Hardy Feng — portrait in architectural light and shadow

I’m Hardy Feng, an artist working across tattooing, painting, and photography. I work primarily in Toronto and Montreal, and also travel internationally for my practice.

My tattoo work grows out of a lifelong engagement with art. I began formal training in drawing and painting at the age of four, later majoring in oil painting at university, where I also studied photography. These years of study and practice continue to shape my eye for composition, light, colour, and form—and the way I approach every tattoo.

For me, tattooing is an extension of this artistic practice. Each piece brings together my understanding of image-making, the character of the body, and the ideas of the person who will carry it.

Traditional Japanese imagery and Eastern aesthetics are central to my work, particularly their flowing compositions, stillness, and understated elegance. My painting background also informs my work in realism, watercolour, and other styles, in both colour and black and grey.

Alongside tattooing, I continue to paint and work as a photographer. Moving between these media keeps my practice evolving, bringing new ways of seeing and thinking into the tattoos I create.

Every collaboration begins with a conversation. Whether you have a clear vision or an idea still taking shape, I’d love to hear what draws you to a particular image, story, or feeling. Together, we can explore how to give it a form that feels personal to you.
